I have had shoulder issues for at least 30 years and finally injured it so badly that I could no longer pass with it. Two torn rotator cuff tendons, a torn labrum and bicep tendinosis. I had lived with some weakness and pain for decades. I had very little pain after the repair surgery and didn’t even take my pain meds that were prescribed. I completed four months of rehab and now have less pain And more strength than I did before the injury. My overall experience with Dr. Momaya and his office has been fantastic. I would recommend him to anyone that is interested in having surgical joint repair.

His staff particularly Sara provides excellent communication and is always available to answer questions.

My experience with UAB Orthopedics was stellar. From initial consultation with Dr Momaya to ACL repair surgery to physical therapy, each interaction was done with attention to detail and care. This level of professionalism is in short supply these days and it was refreshing to experience this at UAB Orthopedics.

Dr. Momaya and his team were amazing. They were all very nice and attentive to any questions I had leading up to/after my surgery. I also appreciated how respectful of my time they were during in-person appointments.

I had a full ACL reconstruction and MCL ramp repair 11 months ago, and have been “released” from care for 2 months, and PT for 1 month. I have been back playing my sport, roller derby, for 1 month at about the same level as when i obtained my injury. As an “older athlete” (39) playing a niche sport I have appreciated the encouragement from Dr. Momaya, his staff, and the PT’s (shout out to Justin Kirk!) that collaborated to provide me the best possible care. It is clear that there was never a doubt that I would recover successfully, return to play, or be stronger on the other side of surgery. I send all of my fellow skaters and folks I know who are dealing with injuries to see Dr. Momya/Justin Kirk and the UAB Sports Medicine team because I know that they will get the best care in the state!

Very informative about entire procedure including pre- and post-op. The staff was organized and let me know everything that was and would be going on in my care. I'm 6 weeks out and extremely pleased with the whole process.

I have healed well from my surgery preformed by Dr. Momoya and his wonderful crew! My scarring is minimal, I felt in the know the whole process, and they treated me with care the entire time, even making sure to line up my tattoo that had to be cut through. Dr. Momaya is one of the top leading sports medicine surgeons in Birmingham. He provides services for elite athletes and weekend warriors alike. He is always up to date on the best research and treatment options for any orthopedic issue. While he is a surgeon and can handle any surgical concern, he also tries to manage injuries without surgery first. Dr. Momaya and his staff are excellent and will work to address your concerns in a timely manner and help you feel part of the process. Would highly recommend.

Not only was i able yo get in to see Dr. Momaya quickly, but Sarah and Dr. Momaya were personable, thorough, and knowledgeable. I left with a better understanding of my injury and a list of possible non-surgical options to decrease my pain that were not offered to me by the local Orthopedic care centers. I drove from Huntsville to see him as a second opinion after a frustrating surgical and post op experience locally. I’ll definitely be referring patients down to him.

Dr. Mamaya and his team have been awesome! I have minimum scars from my ACL reconstruction, torn meniscus and MCL surgery. Physical therapy exceeded my expectations and i enjoyed all the help from Courtney, KK, & Andrew. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Mamaya if you are in need of his services.

Dr. Momaya is fantastic. I’m a former long-time NCAA Division I Head Coach and extremely particular when it comes to giving our recommendations. Over the last few years Dr. Momaya has treated two of my teenaged children for various sports related injuries. And, this morning, he saw me as a patient as well. In all cases he has demonstrated a thorough knowledge of orthopedics including the most up to date research and practices in the field. Although he is a surgeon by training, he never seems predisposed to surgery as the first option. Pursuing the best option relative to the particular circumstances conveys the impression that well-being is always at the forefront of his practice. Most importantly, his bedside manner is thoughtful and kind and he always explains things in a comforting and easily understandable manner. Whether you are a professional athlete, an elite amateur athlete, a weekend warrior, or not an athlete at all, I’d highly recommend seeing Dr. Momaya for all your orthopedic needs.

Dr. Momaya was great. I injured my knee Christmas Day. He called me the next day and said, “I’m doing surgery on Thursday. Come on in and we’ll get you fixed.” And he got me fixed. Great surgeon!

For the first time in a decade I was told ways to manage my pain. And the possibility of feeling better than I have the past ten years. Dr. Momaya and his team were attentive, kind, and truly cared about what was best for me if they were in my shoes. I highly recommend him and his team.
