Dr. Momaya is the absolute best! He handled my ACL reconstruction with such expertise and grace. He explained everything thoroughly and ensured the process went as smoothly as possible. I’m now 9 months post-op, and my knee feels brand new! I couldn’t have asked for a better surgeon!

Dr. Momaya is an incredible surgeon! When I first visited, he recommended we try all non-surgical remedies before proceeding with surgery (which was surprising to hear a surgeon with that recommendation). After exhausting all options, I opted for surgery. He did a fantastic job in explaining the process, risks, recovery, and outlook. The pain from the surgery was much lower than expected, and the recovery protocols were well outlined. After 4 months of PT, I was pain free and my progress followed exactly what Dr. Momaya advised. Now that I'm 7 months post-op, I'm back to 100% strength with no pain at all. I would highly recommend him to anyone!

I had utmost respect for Dr. Momaya until he sent me for a MRI and 3 weeks later I called for the results and the nurse said,he sees nothing that needs surgery at this time. 8 months later I'm looking at a total knee replacement at the age of 45, northeast orthopedics in Gadsden AL with just one X-ray saw I had no cartilage, bone to bone. i really think that they mixed my MRI up with another person, or Dr. Momaya figured that my insurance (Humana) wasn't going to pay him enough. Either way I saw this doctor last year and I didn't play any sports but now I still need a knee. First,do no harm. What happened to this. It's ok to let some poor white trash to walk around the world without a knee, but doc. I got insurance now. Call me

Dr. Momaya and his team are nothing short of stellar!! I suffered a major knee dislocation in early February 2025 at a jiu jitsu competition. Had surgery in April of 2025. ACL and PLC reconstruction, PCL repair, Partial Lateral Meniscectomy, and a Peroneal Nerve Neurolysis. Almost 4 months post op currently. I'm still working on ROM and light strengthening. I can stand, walk, and do most everything myself currently. I know there is still a long road ahead for a full recovery, but I know I'll get there. Dr. Momaya's confidence in his and his teams' abilities make you feel like you're in the right place with the right person for the job. They always answered my MANY questions (sorry Ms. Sarah) and responded in a timely manner. They were always professional and courteous, and you can tell they truly enjoy getting people back to their active lifestyles! Ill be sure to update this review as i progress in my recovery as well. THANK YOU DR. MOMAYA AND THE ENTIRE TEAM AT UAB SPORTS AND EXERCISE MEDICINE!!!!!!!!!!!! Edit 1: Im about 5.5 months post op now. I have full ROM to 120⁰ with mild discomfort and can get to around 130⁰ painfully.. I am certain that ill be able to sit on my heels within the next 6 months to a year. Ive also started running and completed my first mile at a 10 minute pace this past monday!! Ive also started light training in jiu jitsu again and look forward to returning to full training soon!!!

Dr. Momaya is a skilled and kind surgeon. His staff - Sarah especially - made sure I understood the procedure, post op care and rehab to get me back to normal. I highly recommend this clinic! They make a wonderful team!

Could not recommend Dr. Momaya anymore! After an ACL and meniscus reconstruction 1.5 years ago, I still wasn't getting any quad activation. All doctors and PTs just kept telling me to work harder. Finally I was referred to Dr. Momaya and he actually took time to listen and understand my problems which allowed him to discover the real problem behind my lack of quad activation. Could not be more grateful for him so I can finally be on the road to recovery!

Dr. Momaya and his team are fantastic! I originally had my ACL repaired in south Alabama and after 2 additional scopes, was still lacking full extension. Dr. Momaya was able to quickly address and correct the problem. He significantly restored my quality of life and I could not be more grateful. It was well worth the 3 hour drive. Don’t make the mistake I did, go see Dr. Momaya FIRST!

Great acl surgeon 1 year out have no problems

Such an amazing Doctor! He did knee surgery on my son and got him pretty much all the way back to where it was before his injury. Would always go back to him no where else!

Dr Momaya is one of the best surgeons around. I had tore my shoulder labrum in each shoulder and he did an amazing job fixing both shoulders and answering any questions we had. I have full range of mobility now and feel just as good as I did before I got injured. He has very good attention to detail and really does care about his patients. He won’t lie to you and tells you everything you need to know before you ask him. His staff is also amazing and cares about the patients just as much as Dr Momaya. I highly recommend him for any surgeries you might need to have.

"Seriously, listen up! This surgeon is phenomenal. I went in for a cleanup of a complex meniscus tear—my meniscus was completely shredded. For over a year, I'd been misdiagnosed by other doctors and was in constant pain. But immediately after the surgery, and every day since, I've felt absolutely no pain, even starting physical therapy the very next day! I didn't even experience discomfort from the procedure itself, and I didn't need any of the prescribed pain medicine. This doctor is a masterful, skilled, and incredibly intelligent surgeon. I'll recommend him to everyone I know!"

Our family's experience with Dr. Momaya and his staff was exceptional. Our son had a shoulder labrum tear. We were seen quickly after our son's initial injury. The staff were responsive when we had questions or concerns. The office is easy to access and all of the staff were kind and helpful. They carefully monitored his recovery from surgery. We highly recommend Dr. Momaya and his wonderful team!

Dr. Momaya explained my procedure and recovery time expectations. The surgery went well although I had some pain at the followup which he addressed promptly. Very pleased with the results. Only complaint is I wish I hadn't waited so long to have it done. Thank you Dr. Momaya

Dr. Momaya has his team do a great job of taking care of not only athletes but also the general population. He injected PRP into my knee and now my knee feels great. I would recommend Dr. Momaya and his team to anyone experiencing sports injuries or general orthopedic issues!
