Patella Instability Surgery

I am from the Birmingham area and attended Vestavia Hills High School. I grew up as a very active individual. I had dislocated my patella several times. I initially underwent surgery by another surgeon in the community twice, but despite this, continued to have instability. I then decided to come see Dr. Momaya for a second opinion. He immediately measured the distance between by tibial tubercle (the bump on the shin bone) and the trochlea (the groove in which my patella sits). He stated that this distance was significant and thus an osteotomy (bone shifting) procedure was needed to stabilize the patella in addition to reconstructing my torn ligament (MPFL). I appreciated how he was professional and focused on what he could do to make my knee better. You could tell he was very knowledgeable about patella instability.

I underwent surgery with Dr. Momaya and it was a success. The rehab was carefully planned out. I could immediately feel that my knee cap was much more stable than it had ever been. He spent time to answer all of mine and my family’s questions at each post-op visit.

I am now attending Auburn University. I am grateful that we saw Dr. Momaya for a second opinion. He is a terrific surgeon, and I highly recommend him for anyone suffering from orthopedic issues.

Patient consent was obtained.
